RESOLUTION FOR DIVESTMENT OF FUNDS IN CORPORATIONS
AND INSTITUTIONS INVOLVED IN THE DESIGN, ASSEMBLY
AND MANUFACTURE OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS AND COMPONENTS
Whereas, recent polls have indicated that 76%
of the people of the United States have declared
that NO COUNTRY should possess nuclear weapons;
and further
Whereas, all humanity
faces the threat posed by the proliferation of
nuclear weapons, hundreds of times more powerful
than those that killed 245,000 people and
destroyed the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Japan, 60 years ago; and further
Whereas, the United
States retains an arsenal of 12,700 nuclear
weapons on trigger-alert and continues research
into new, smaller, more powerful nuclear weapons;
and further
Whereas, the Pentagon has
announced a policy of preemption that includes the
use of nuclear weapons, including attacks on
“deep, hardened bunkers” requiring new nuclear
weapons that Congress has already rejected; and
further
Whereas, the Pentagon
claims that about “thirty nations with weapons of
mass destruction programs”; and further
Whereas, the refusal of
the United States to allow the Final Review
Conference of the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty at
the United Nations to deal with the obligation of
nuclear-weapons states under Article 6 to initiate
negotiations for the total abolition of nuclear
weapons causing the Conference to end in shambles;
and further
Whereas, the threats and
heightened tensions surrounding nuclear weapons
discussions with Iran and North Korea are adding
to the instability of world peace;
Therefore, in order to
translate the will of the people for the total
abolition of nuclear weapons in order to save
humanity itself, we call for the divestment of all
funds: personal, institutional, church, trade
unions, municipalities and state governments in
any corporation involved in the design,
manufacture, assembly or production of component
parts of nuclear weapons; and further
We call upon
_________________to immediately request that
fiduciary agents responsible for the investment of
funds to remove those funds invested in
corporations so involved as soon as possible, and
so report.
