Election of the Executive Committee
and the Secretariat of the WPC
Athens, May 6-9, 2004
The Assembly of the WPC elected a 39-member Executive Committee composed of the respective member organizations from the following countries:
The Secretariat is composed, according to the amended rules and regulations, of the President, the General Secretary, five Regional Coordinators and five more Secretaries, one of them being from the host organization of the central office of the WPC.
The Executive Committee decided that the tasks, responsibilities and powers of the General Secretary would be for the time being the ones of the outgoing Executive Secretary, upon modification by the Executive Committee.
The Executive Committee elected, in its first meeting on May 9, 2004, the following Secretariat:
1. President: Orlando Fundora Lopes (Cuban Movement for Peace and Sovereignty of the Peoples MOVPAZ)
2. General Secretary: Thanassis Pafilis (Greek Committee for International Détente and Peace EEDYE)
3. Mexican Movement for Peace and development, MOMPADE (Regional Coordinator for the Americas)
4. Vietnam Peace Committee, VPC (Regional Coordinator for Asia&Pacific)
5. Egyptian Peace Committee (Regional Coordinator for Middle East)
6. Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (Regional Coordinator for Europe)
7. Congo Peace Committee (Regional Coordinator for Africa)
8. Greek Committee for International Détente and Peace, EEDYE
9. Japanese Peace Committee
10. French Movement for Peace
11. Senegalese Movement for Peace
12. US Peace Council
The Executive Committee elected as well three Co-Presidents from Palestine (PCPJ), Argentina (MOPASSOL) and India (AIPSO), which are entitled to attend the meetings of the Secretariat, along with the two Presidents of honor.
