We find ourselves in the most precarious global situation since the beginning of World War II.
U.S. imperialism along with its allies and subordinates is rampaging war on one country after another, threatening to vaporize whole civilizations.
The U.S. and NATO continue to weaponize the war in Ukraine, participating in both overt and covert ways, avoiding to negotiate a just peace that both stops the devastation and respects the wishes of the people.
The same forces continue to weaponize Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people, providing diplomatic cover and precluding the just resolution of this decades-long war and the construction of a viable Palestinian state. Israel’s genocidal impulses extend to Lebanon, Syria and Iran, while Israel seizes more and more territory.
The U.S. and Israel have jointly initiated a deadly aggression on Iran to remove the last state independent of U.S. imperialism from West Asia. They have assassinated one leader after another, wishing for a color revolution that refuses to appear.
In reasserting its Monroe-doctrine hegemony over the western hemisphere, the U.S. is bombing fishing boats, has kidnapped the leaders of Venezuela, is stealing its oil and pocketing the proceeds.
The U.S. has tightened its siege of Cuba aiming to genocide of its heroic people and overthrow of its 6-decades socialist revolution. The resulting food, energy and medical scarcity is literally killing Cubans, especially the young and elderly.
The Haitian population remains imprisoned in centuries of military and economic occupation. Countries throughout Latin America, Africa and Asia and even Europe are beggared to military threats and imperialist demands.
The U.S. promotes militarization and wars in Africa. The Trump administration is openly bullying every country to do the bidding of a handful of monopoly corporations and billionaire oligarchs.
In part these actions of U.S. imperialism are continuations of long-term policy and in part they are an accelerated response to the growing, collective efforts of much of the world, primarily the Global South to chart a path of true independence, sovereignty and anti-imperialism.
As China, and to a much more modest extent BRICS and other nations, equals and surpasses the United States economically, scientifically, technically, politically, and culturally, U.S. imperialism, its manufacturing base hollowed out on behalf of maximizing profits, has really only one tool left in its toolbox. That is kinetic warfare and economic violence, coercion and manipulation of national and international bodies.
Imperialism is cannibalizing funding for human needs in the United States and the environment to feed the Pentagon. The Trump administration has brazenly destroyed or is on the way to destroying the federal Department of Education, the Forestry Service, the Environmental Protection Agency among others. It is stealing $95 billion from Departments that serve people to feed the Pentagon and it’s borrowing much more from the rich that the poor will have to pay back.
The U.S. military today takes as much as 70% of the federal discretionary budget and President Trump insists that it be increased by 50% next year to US$1.5 trillion. In truth these numbers are an undercount. The U.S. military budget is already larger than the military budgets of the next 9 nations, most of which are U.S. allies. Trump is also insisting that the NATO states raise their military budgets to 5% of their GDP, forcing each member state also to cannibalize its civilian sector.
The vast treasures accumulated from all corners of the globe and then aimed at war and destruction are stolen from the needs of the vast majority. As the great U.S. leader Rev. Martin Luther King said nearly 60 years ago, “…I knew that America would never invest the necessary funds or energies in rehabilitation of its poor so long as adventures like Vietnam continued to draw men and skills and money like some demonic, destructive suction tube.”
Fifty-seven per cent of U.S. families live paycheck to paycheck. Nearly 50 million people can’t afford access to nutritious food. The food-insecurity percentage for African American and Latino families is double that of white families, one indication of racialized exploitation.
In the richest country in history about one and a quarter of million people experience homelessness at least once per year. Half of the homeless have a job. They just don’t earn enough to afford housing. For about half of all renters housing is unaffordable. About 75% of families cannot afford the median-priced home (6.5% interest rate – NAHB).
Massive college debt weighs down graduates who often can’t find jobs that pay a living wage.
Women’s health care is being attacked. Immigrants and even citizens who “look” like immigrants are seized on the streets and imprisoned in dungeons. Even the needs of military veterans, who despite constant praise are subject to cuts as tens of thousands of caregivers have been laid off.
Let me stop with this overview from the USPC to speak about what we are doing.
First of all, we are building our campaign to move money from war spending to funding human needs on a number of fronts.
USPC chapters are participating in the No Kings, anti-Trump mass rallies, which have brought 8 million people into the streets, with our message to move money from the war economy to human needs, with our message to stop the imperialist wars.
We are reaching out to trade unions and other social justice organizations.
It is significant that the slogan No More Wars has been added to the No Kings, No ICE (immigration police) slogans. The aggression on Iran has raised consciousness and the ire of a majority of the U.S. population. The term “imperialism” is more and more being used.
It is significant that the U.S. trade union movement is reclaiming May Day as an international worker’s holiday for the first time in 75 years with the slogan Workers Over Billionaires and No Wars.

Comrades,
The USPC is aware that much more needs to be done in solidarity with Cuba. Both in the USA and worldwide. While there have been some mobilizations, the enormous sentiment of support for Cuba is not matched by actions to stop imperialism from its economic and kinetic aggressions. We ask the WPC to call on all affiliated groups, all peace forces to mobilize actions to oppose the US imperialist war on Cuba as soon as possible. A week of actions at US government entities, major corporations in every country possible. Let each organization choose its actions.
Clearly there is urgency. Saving the Cuban revolution deserves no less.
