U.S. Peace Council Statement, August 1, 2025 —
The Palestine resistance today is the voice of the global anti-imperialist struggle. No one understands this principle better than the imperialists themselves, who are making Palestine the bleeding edge. Or in the monstrous utterance of US Representative Randy Fine: “May the streets of Gaza overflow with their blood.”
Fine was behind the recent Congressional hearing on “Antisemitism in Higher Education: Examining the Role of Faculty, Funding, and Ideology.” This McCarthyite spectacle was designed to deflect attention from Israel’s genocide in Gaza and to escalate repression at home. Two executive committee members of the US Peace Council were explicitly targeted during the hearing, illustrating the intensifying criminalization of anti-imperialist and Palestine solidarity work in the U.S.
The US empire enables, finances, and stands behind Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people.
The fight in the US for Palestinian liberation is a key front in the growing global struggle against imperialism.
While Tel Aviv has destroyed every university in Gaza, Washington has targeted colleges and universities in the US, where students, staff, and faculty have been in the forefront of the Palestine solidarity movement—just as they have in past struggles against racism, capitalism, and US imperialism. Public universities that serve predominantly working-class people of color, such as The City University of New York (CUNY), are particularly vulnerable to the politically motivated attacks to quell political expression.
